Academic & Family Background:

M.A., B.Com, Ph.D, D. Litt, Doctorate by the Soka University, Tokyo (Hons Causa), Doctor of Laws (Hons.Causa); Panjab University, Chandigarh

Son of Late Shri Avtar Narain Gujral and Late Shrimati Pushpa Gujral. Born at Jhelum on 4th December 1919 Married Shrimati Shiela Gujral, May 26, 1945 two sons;

Belongs to family of freedom fighters, both parents participated in freedom struggle in Punjab. As a youngster at the age of eleven, he actively participated in the freedom struggle of India and was arrested and severely beaten by the police in 1931 for organising movement of young children in Jhelum town, was jailed in 1942 Quit India Movement.
